A bespoke WordPress website for Harrogate’s wildlife enthusiasts.

Since 1947, the Harrogate & District Naturalists’ Society has inspired people to explore and engage with the wildlife of Yorkshire. From towns and gardens to the stunning countryside of Harrogate, Knaresborough, Ripon, and the Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the organisation fosters a deep appreciation for the natural world.

Our Role

Flair Digital was approached to create a visually appealing and accessible website to serve two key objectives:

To showcase the society’s activities for its existing members.
To increase public awareness and engagement with a view to growing membership.

The new design prioritises a clean, modern, and visually striking aesthetic, aligning with the society’s brand identity. We incorporated slate blue and green tones to create a welcoming and professional atmosphere, complemented by brighter shades of green and pink for added depth and emphasis. The layout features well-defined content blocks with Calls to Action placed strategically below each section to drive engagement.

Responsive Design

A mobile-friendly website was essential to reach users on various devices. The responsive design ensures that visitors can enjoy seamless browsing on smartphones, tablets, and desktops, making it easy to explore content and contribute from anywhere.

The website leverages WordPress to empower the society with robust content management tools and encourage user participation:

User-Submitted Content: A custom form allows users to submit wildlife sightings, which are automatically added to the website, fostering community involvement.
Custom Post Types: Dedicated sections for wildlife sightings, events, and trip reports make it simple for the society to add and organise content.
Modern Visual Design: A clean, image-led design reflects the society’s focus on nature and wildlife, while ample whitespace ensures a crisp, uncluttered look.
